Saudi Arabia no more a Big Brother to Pakistan?

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan Relations Getting Worse.

Recent Animosity

Saudi Recently demanded Pakistan to immediately Repay $1bn of it's Total $3bn Loan.
In such a situation Pakistan Borrowed $1bn from China To repay Loan from Saudi part of an earlier Package.

In 2018: 
  • Saudi Arabia provided a 6.2bn package to Pakistan, out of which $3bn was directly loaned to help Pakistan repay several other loans.
  • Saudi Loan was to be repaid in Installments by 2021.
  • Remaining $3.2bn was in the form of 'Deferred'.  
  • Oil Supply- Pakistan was supplied oil for which it had to pay later.
  • Current Decision forces Pakistan to repay the loan immediately while it's oil supply from Saudi Arabia has been Terminated.

Why it happened?


Pakistan has been Attempting to call a meeting of the 'Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)' over the Kashmir Issue. Pakistan hostile since india Abrogated Article 370 from the Jammu and Kashmir state. Saudi Arabia did not openly back Pakistan. Several Nations of the OIC like the UAE, Oman, Maldives supported India, Labelled Kashmir issue as an "internal matter" of India.





Pakistan recently claimed it will go ahead "with or without" Saudi arabia and the OIC if they do not support against India. Also Pakistan questioned on Saudi Arabia stating "Saudi Arabia is not Doing Enough" regarding the Kashmir Issue. 
In response, Saudi Terminated the Financial Aid and The Oil Supply to Pakistan.

Role of Turkey in Pakistan-Saudi Relations being Poor.

Case1: Turkey and Pakistan share a very good relations with each other as both consider themselves as Islamic State. Turkey Supports Pakistan in it's membership of Nuclear Suppliers Group. Lieutenant-General Talat Masood ( Retired three-star rank Army general of Pakistan) said Turkey and Pakistan enjoy close relations during Both democratic and military regimes, reflecting both countries relations.

Case2: Turkey and Saudi Arabia relations faced problems due to Qatar diplomatic crisis. Turkey supports Qatar against Saudi Arabia in the ongoing diplomatic dispute.



Result: Pakistan PM Imran Khan recently Tweeted that Turkish Drama Serial Ertugrul Gazi(Dirilis Ertugrul) is the real Islamic History and demanded every pakistani to watch it so that they know their history. Now Saudi Arabia didn't like this statement of Imran khan as Turkey- Saudi Arabia relations are not good and Pakistan stating such statements and Saudi providing aid to Pakistan it was just like Example: You are admiring Nazi Serial and Taking Aids from Israel.


Recent Pakistan- Saudi Relations.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia shared a cordial relationship prior to the latest fallout.
2018: Pakistan attended the Saudi summit even after several organizations and countries boycotted the event. Boycott was over the killing of a Saudi Arabian nationalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey. Reportedly killed by Saudi agents.
2018: Saudi extended a $6.2bn aid to Pakistan.
2019: Pakistan PM Imran Khan himself himself drove Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman from airport when he visited Pakistan.
  • Prince Salman declared himself an "Ambassador" of Pakistan in Saudi.
